The episode, titled "Wild Barts Can't Be Token," humorously tackles the overvaluation of on-chain NFTs. NFTs are unique crypto assets that prove ownership of real or digital items.
The storyline unfolds as Marge embarks on a blockchain adventure to rescue Bart, who has somehow become a living NFT. Meanwhile, the city's mayor announces the digitization of Springfield's art gallery. The episode also features familiar NFT references, including Beeple, the Bored Ape Yacht Club, and various second-tier profile picture (PFP) NFTs, humorously depicted as nearly worthless.
One NFT collector and Crypt Gallery advisor found the episode's focus on art particularly noteworthy. He praised the emphasis on traditional art as a mark of prestige, positioning PFP NFTs as less prestigious in the narrative.

This isn't the first time The Simpsons has dabbled in the world of crypto and NFTs. In 2020, an episode called "Frinkcoin" featured Jim Parsons explaining cryptocurrency and the blockchain, just before the crypto market's turbulence in March 2020.
Last year, in an episode titled "The King of Nice," Krusty the Clown humorously resorts to the celebrity-for-hire app Cameo after losing money on NFTs, humorously dubbing them "non-funny TV shows."
Simpsons creator Matt Groening has occasionally poked fun at the crypto and blockchain space in his animated series. In another creation, "Futurama," crypto miners received their share of satire in an episode titled "How the West Was 101001."
While The Simpsons' take on NFTs and crypto is all in good fun, it has sparked some minor movement in the floor prices of NFT collections like the Bored Ape Yacht Club, which saw a 0.3% increase in the last 24 hours, and the Mutant Ape Yacht Club, with floor prices rising by 2.9%. In contrast, the price of Ether experienced a slight decline of 0.14%.
