If you invested $1,000 in Bitcoin at the start of 2025, here is your return now

Last year was a bit of a rollercoaster for Bitcoin ( BTC ), with the flagship cryptocurrency seeing a fair share of both highs and lows . So would a $1,000 investment in Bitcoin at the start of 2025 have been worth it? BTC went into 2025 on a somewhat solid footing but ended up struggling throughout the first quarter. It eventually rebounded over the summer and reached new all-time highs above $126,000 in October, but it soon went on another downward trend. The fourth quarter’s sharp reversal was the most damaging, dragging the full-year Bitcoin price firmly into negative territory. Accordingly, investing $1,000 in Bitcoin at the start of 2025 would have resulted in a somewhat unremarkable outcome by the time of writing, January 5, 2026. How much would a $1,000 Bitcoin investment at the start of 2025 be worth now? Namely, at press time, BTC was trading at $92,640, down 5.82% on the yearly chart. One-year Bitcoin price chart. In other words, a hypothetical $1,000 Bitcoin investment a year ago would now be worth approximately $945. Had you invested four days earlier, on January 1, 2025, when Bitcoin was priced at $94,930, you would now have around $975. On New Year’s Eve 2025, for comparison, that same investment would have been worth $923. Comparing these scenarios, although they are all negative, it becomes evident how seemingly irrelevant timing discrepancies can influence long-term outcomes with such an asset, especially in a year as volatile as for markets as 2025.
