Klaytn Blockchain Welcomes Gold-Pegged Coin (GPC) – Pioneer of Tokenized Gold in DeFi Beyond Ethereum

The Klaytn Foundation, the driving force behind the South Korean public blockchain Klaytn, has made a significant move by integrating $GPC (Gold-Pegged Coin) and its DeFi platform, Goldstation. Developed by South Korean internet giant Kakao, Klaytn announced that the $GPC token, initiated by CREDER, a digital transformation firm based in South Korea, marks the first tokenized gold available on DeFi outside the Ethereum ecosystem. Notably, $GPC stands out as the inaugural tokenized gold that refrains from imposing percentage-based fees for transactions, a distinction highlighted by Klaytn.
This strategic move opens up new possibilities for $GPC users, leveraging the Klaytn blockchain's low gas fees. This feature facilitates small-scale investments, allowing users to efficiently allocate funds for purchasing gold. By eliminating percentage-based transaction fees, Klaytn emphasizes the cost-effectiveness of trading gold tokens on DeFi.

Sam Seo, the representative director of the Klaytn Foundation, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration with CREDER, stating, "Moving forward, we will closely cooperate with them to deliver more diverse metal RWA tokenization projects for the domestic and global markets."

Goldstation, the DeFi platform, is set to launch its services, including $GPC staking, on January 24. Initially targeting South Korean residents, Goldstation envisions global expansion in the near future.

Klaytn's blockchain has demonstrated its versatility by venturing into various sectors, including DeFi, real-world asset tokenization, and participation in the Bank of Korea's CBDC pilot project. In November, Klaytn partnered with a shipping unit of Korindo, an Indonesian conglomerate, to explore tokenization practices related to ship-related assets.
